these things happened on Monday

We took a drive out to Forest Hill Cemetery, where we saw the grave sites of Buck O'Neil and Satchel Paige.  Buck was easy to find, in fact he was right next to the visitor's center where we went to ask about how to find Satch.
The nice lady inside (everyone out here is super nice, it's bizzarrrrrrre) told us, "Oh that's easy, he has his own island!"  Seeing Satch's grave was erie, because everything I have read about him makes him feel so alive even thirty years after he died.  It was great to see that people came and left baseballs where he was buried.

On top of that it was really tremendous of Lauren to go out there with me; it takes a special kind of person to spend their day looking for dead baseball players.

After our time at Forest Hill we went to a little place called "The Brick" for lunch, which was comfortable and the food was tasty.  Some homeless people were drinking in there too, which would be unthinkable in Philly, but in Kansas City everybody is super relaxed.

Next we explored downtown a little bit, but we thought we might get into some trouble with the KC parking authority so we dropped in to this pseudo-Whole Foods to buy a peppermint patty and ask the cashier if we were going to get a ticket.  This super-helpful lady told us that she could validate our parking for two hours since we made a purchase (69 cents, roflcopter).

Later that night we went to a show at the Blue Room Jazz Club, which was the busiest place in all of Kansas City.

Other highlights include: I helped some dude push his car,
we went to THE crappiest casino in the world,  GREAT PIZZA (from Grinder's of Diners Drive-Ins and Dives fame).  Also, The Brick was on that show.  Lauren loooooves the food network.

Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri

Repeat snooze action for approximately 60 minutes, with the alarm going off each 5-minute interval. Got up and showered, hotel hair dryer caught on fire mid blow dry. Two words, stinky and scary. 1044am on the road again and made it to good ole’ Indianapolis with hopes of eating at this adorable fifty’s diner called, “Shelby’s Diner.” We arrive and to our surprise CLOSED SUNDAYS! Plan B white castle for a delectable snack of sweet potato fries when it hit us…..Indianapolis is full of some strange looking people. With that in mind we got out as quick as possible.  Drivinnng….. drove…drove. Hit Illinois and finally got some real sustenance at the Cracker Barrel at around 4pm. We both got some yummy breakfast choices, mine especially cute and yummy because I got Eggys in a basket! Then Chris laughed at me when I wanted Mac & Cheese for dessert…. With our bellys filled up real nice, we are en route again with a long journey ahead to destination KANSAS CITY, MO.  We make it to Kansas City and successfully check in to our little hotel room. We are exhausted and go to turn the lights on and none of them work. So after a little room change we are safely in bed with a super creepy guy in the room next to us, Yikesss! Some photos from the 70mph moving car...(click to enlarge)

Trippie

Rapid fire snooze button, pack, dunkin, bank, car, figure out how to deposit check in an atm, bank, on the road finally.  Bout an hour and a half later than planned, nbd.  PA turnpike is loooooooooong.  LD took some pictures, caught this place called Nickers & Neighs.  FACT: they make pants for horses there.  Get to Pittsburgh for lunch, eat at this super classy place called BAHAMA BREEZE.  They accept gift cards from Red Lobster, boom.  I couldn't find the number for the tremendously upscale RED ROOF INN  where we had booked a room, so LD got on her iFin and outwitted those illuminati assholes who were trying to keep us down.  She calls the place, confirms our reservation, says goodbye and DOES NOT HANG UP before saying, "Nice little Indian guy there."  Facepalm.  We get to Columbus where our RRI is located, and who should we meet but an Indian fella who smirks at us when we come in, but seeing how haggard we look takes pity on our racist bones, gives us our keys and implores us to "take some rest."  Tight
